I heart ART party

I am totally in love with this {art} party theme! It’s the little details that make or break a party and I just love how they have used the right amount of pop colours as well as a huge dose of white to keep everything bright and crisp. How sweet is the photo of the giant red balloon & the display all of the little artist profile pictures for the parents to view at the gallery showing.

An art party is perfect for a creative child. Have fun with it! xx

meet {yummy mummy} Jen

I am in love with Jen’s beautiful collection of custom made invitations and I’m thrilled that Jen is taking part if our {yummy mummy} guest post. In addition to a successful business and blog, Jen is a graphic designer and fitness instructor with plenty on her plate. Jennifer Birkhead Designs collection carries a range of custom made invitations for Kids birthdays, Baby Shower, Birth Announcements, and Wedding Invitations.

Jen’s middle name is attention to detail, having said that she loves to design products that help you celebrate life’s special occasions in style. I am totally in love with the recent baby shower event that Jen styled for her lovely friend. Everything looks absolutely amazing. {take a look at the images below}. Jen also shares her inspirations, favourite trends and her love for Cadbury ;) {which I can also relate}.

Enjoy xx

Tell us a little about YOU, the woman behind Jennifer Birkhead Design?

I am a proud Mummy to two gorgeous girls Ella and April (4 and 1) and wife to a spunky man who has been my husband for 6 years.I have two careers - I am a trained graphic designer and have a Bachelor of Design majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Photography.I am also a fitness instructor and teach 7-8 classes of RPM and BodyPump a week.I am passionate about both :)
I am a night owl, which goes hand in hand with being WAHM and has lead to a continued coffee addiction that started in uni ;)
I like to see the glass half full but believe that having a good cry every now and then is good for the soul :)

When did you launch your business/website/blog?
I started my Facebook page and blog back in March this year. Then my website launched in August, just last month!

What was your inspiration for starting your own business & who/what inspires your work?
A friend suggested I should make a business out of what I was already doing for friends and family. I have been doing freelance design from home since leaving the 9 – 5 workforce but concentrating on invitations is something new I have always loved theming parties and since having my girls I have become a little more obsessed by it ;) So they are my inspiration but I am also inspired by so many of the other talented people out there!

What is the most satisfying part of what you do?
Being a designer is about answering a brief so obviously I love it when I “nail it” and make a client happy and proud of what I have created for them.

What was the most rewarding thing that has happened in your career so far?
I would have to say the compliments and attention for the recent baby shower I styled and design for. I was blown away! It was a double blessing because I was being recognised by peers and fans but most importantly I was able to create a wonderful occasion for a very dear friend. {please see images of Jen's friend baby shower below - well done lovely}

Can you tell us your favourite handmade item you have brought recently?
Still wearing the headband I bought from Mon Tresor all the time and always have compliments on it :)

What are your long term goals for your business?
So far it has grown somewhat organically but now I’ve gotten to the stage I’m at there is a little more planning and strategy involved. I would love for my brand to be a recognisable one in the world of kid’s parties and the next challenge is weddings

What would be your best tip for someone thinking about selling online?
Make sure you do some planning and research to find the best way for you to do this, whether it be your own website or something like etsy – this will depend on your product.

Name three brands you couldn’t live without? and why?
Asics – I found through trial and error that these are the best shoes for me when instructing.
Mac - I don’t/can’t do PCs ;)
Cadbury ;)

Do you have a favourite trend?
Loving the ornate hair accessories at the moment

What is your favourite place in the world?
If we’re being glamourous I’d say Paris…*sigh* ~ If we are being true to heart I’d say wherever my family is, as corny as it sounds it rings so very true :)

If you could be a super hero or cartoon character who would it be? (this one is just for s a bit of fun) ~ Lara Croft for SURE she kicks ass!

Little Red Riding Hood Party

Red cape? Check. Woven basket? Check. Big bad wolf? Check.

Little Red Riding Hood has always been one of my favorite fairytales, but not just for the story itself, but the craft inspiration from it. As I've probably mentioned before, red is my favorite color! So i would love to share with you this gorgeous little red riding hood inspired party.I am totally in love with the enchanted woods sweet station, sweet fondant toppers crowning the berry bliss cupcakes, personalized water bottles and the gorgeous custom made capes.

I am also thrilled to have our 'red riding hood' card turned into a birthday invitation as requested by one of our lovely customers. I will have so much fun creating these invitations and gift tags.

xx

Vintage...Chic...Timeless

I absolutely adore this vintage celebration. It’s the definition of all things pretty. The definition of perfection. I love the use of gorgeous candy-colour palette of turquoise aqua blue, mustard yellow, moss green and hot pink. How gorgeous are the old jars filled with bubble making fluid, decorated with a fabric flower, divine twine, and a vintage key. A separate vintage key was used to blow bubbles.

I’m head-over-heels in love with every detail. How cute are these table numbers and the vintage milk crates housing floral centerpieces. I’m loving the idea of a *sweet vintage* celebration and if I had a little girl this would have made an ideal birthday party theme.
Style Me Pretty shares this lovely photoshoot, complete with colorful pom poms, a delicious dessert table (make that the most adorable bookshelf you’ve ever seen!) and vintage place settings.

Enjoy ♥

Just look up!

I am so excited to share something that has been really inspiring me lately: {clouds}!
Here in Sydney, we have lovely blue skies and big puffy clouds a lot, in fact it's always something that makes my summer seem so...perfect? childlike? happy? All of those things, really. I have a great appreciation for all cloud inspired art so I have handpicked few of my favourite cloud designs and i would love to share them with you.

jedi master aniken 1st birthday

My gorgeous little boy Aniken turned 1 yesterday. We had the most wonderful day and celebrated his birthday with our family and friends. It was months of planning but everything went so smoothly. It is so wonderful to be able to celebrate our child’s 1st birthday and to reminisce about the year gone and the wonderful memories we have shared over the last year!
The theme of the party had to be “Star Wars” as my son is named after one of the characters. Hubby was super excited about Anikens party as he a HUGE star wars fan. The scene was set up using shades of black, red and blue. Perhaps not your typical colours for little boys first birthday but we had to use colours inline with the star wars theme.

I bought Aniken a Darth Vader costume, I don’t think he could pull of the ‘mean’ vader look as he is the sweetest little boy :) so I had to change him into his super cute 'jedi master' hoodie.
We had inflatable light sabers for all the kids which they all loved & entirely enjoyed. The kids played ‘pin the light saber on a jedi’ game and the winner was presented with a ‘jedi certificate’. Few of the kids enjoyed star wars coloring, however the space cadets jumping castle was a hit.

As for the sweet treats, I organized a mini candy buffet with a colour palette of red/black/blue lollies. The R2D2 birthday cake was made by Catherine from 2bites, she did an amazing job. The personalized chocolates and chocolate pops were made by the very talented Niki from Candy Soirees. The star wookie cookies and delicious star feature cupcakes were made by my lovely sister inlaw Suzanna. The party bags had lots of yummy lollies for all the kids.

I would like to thank my gorgeous mum, hubby and dad for all their hard work. Mum did most of the food, I decorated the place and dad and hubby were in charge of setting up the outside area. Also I would like to thank my amazing sister in law Suzanna (Mon Tresor) who made the delicious cupcakes and super cute star wookie cookies.

Also I would like to thank few of my fellow blogger/facebook friends for making Anikens party complete. Firstly the lovely Niki from Candy Soirees for making the personalized chocolates and chocolate pops, they looked and tasted delicious. Also the talented Jordan from Polkadot Prints who designed the party labels, thank you so much.

Enjoy xx
