Travel Around the World

We are so delighted to be a part of the virtual Mother’s Day e-vent hosted by Jacki from Blissfully Sweet in honour of her mum who passed away 10 years ago. What a lovely way to commemorate this special day and also is a great tribute to all mums out there.

Around the world theme was perfect for Dewi and I as we both love to travel, especially if it involves Paris. Essentially we wanted to combine the three main elements, trip around the world, our passion for Paris and also add a touch of femininity to the mix.  The hues of sailor blue, lipstick red and latte brown complimented each other brilliantly. We used vintage suitcases, chalkboard frames, wooden drawer, mix of red and clear hobnail stands to created different heights to the table and also to accentuate the beautiful cakes and desserts.

What a better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than treating yourself with a slice of mouth-watering sugar rose petal cake followed by red velvet cake in jar! We used a beautiful white embossed ceramic jug to display the beautiful blooms which added a touch of rustic French charm to the table. The vintage map was a perfect way to highlight the trip, starting from Sydney all the way to Dubai, London, Berlin, Paris, Milan, Skopje, Athens, New York, Bahamas and back to Sydney.  Adding small details such as handmade passport, plane tickets, postage stamps cake bunting, mini airmail envelopes and world globes was a perfect way to tie the travel theme together. It was a pleasure working with Shannon from Willow Art Company as she captured every emotion and every vignette beautifully.

Japanese Style Mothers Day Luncheon

Denin said: Japan has always held a special place in our hearts. Especially since it is the country where my husband and I were blessed with the birth of our beautiful son.  Motherhood is a highly respected institution in Japanese society. It is still a sacred responsibility that women are expected to accomplish once married. The other local mothers embraced me into their community and I was honoured to be accepted into their culture.

To celebrate Mother’s Day this year, I wanted to revive the feeling I had when I first saw my son’s face. We opted for a Japanese style picnic luncheon in a park. The design has been brooding in my head for quite some time now. Chiyogami (Japanese paper) and fabric were important inspirations for the designs. I have been collecting and hoarding a plethora of beautiful flotsam and jetsam, from when we were living in Japan and during our recent visit there. The picnic mother’s day luncheon was to celebrate with a typical every day bento, consisting of onigiri (rice balls), tamagoyaki (sweeten omelette) and steamed broccoli. After lunch, we enjoyed green tea with hand painted chiyogami pattern cookies and cupcakes.

We finished our picnic with some delightfully colourful Japanese lollies.  My son was so excited to give me a pretty stylised Japanese necklace and adorable chiyogami wrapped pencils.

Charming Mother's Day by Ruby Ju

Bec said: Mothers Day is a day that I love to share with my family, especially with my mother, grandmother and sister. It is really special to have the three generations of mother’s altogether. Our Mothers day celebrations are often spent relaxing, and eating good food and pausing to take a moment and appreciate the beauty of motherhood itself.

The inspiration for my Mothers day dessert table evolved from a yellow and gold teacup that my grandmother gave me years ago.  Yellow isn’t a colour I choose often but I think that it lends itself to a dessert table beautifully. 

The desserts chosen for the table were all hand made from recipes that we all love and grew up with plus a few new favorites such as lemon & poppy seed cake pops and lemon meringue macarons.  The old time favorites included my mother’s citrus bundt cakes, nanna’s vanilla bean biscuits and my sister’s lemon cupcakes.

The table was finished with handmade decorations that were relaxed and easy, made to flow with the feel of the day. The tags were hand crafted using different patterned papers and just a few simple embellishments. The daisy chain, also created with different pretty papers, was a reflection of those days spent crafting with my mother and sister as a child. Flowers were added into little cream pourers to brighten up the table and, in celebration of some pretty amazing women, a splash of glamour was added with touches of gold glitter and some gold tassel bunting.
